.:|[FFXI Quickstart Newbie Guide]|:.
.:[Introduction]:.
Many of my Online and Offline friends have asked me how to get anywhere in FFXI when they first start. The first 20 levels can be very difficult to the newbie player, especially without the support of friends.
The point of this guide is to help you get you from level 1-20, but introduce you to quests, and how to gain a decent amount of gill.
.:[Welcome to FFXI]:.
I'm going to assume your reading this guide because you just purchased/received the game and you want to dive right into it. That's ok, I did the same; however I would suggest taking a glance now, or later at the expanded guide I have to understand more advanced features of the game, and how to be a better player in general.
.:Assumptions:.
- You own PC version of the game
- You installed the game
- You registered the game
- You can read ^_^
.:[Creating a Character]:.
lets make our self a character! Your character is... well... you. This is the guy/gal your going to be controlling pretty much from here on! If you all ready created a character you like, you may skip this section.
.:Race:.
When you first start-up you will be asked to choose a race. The races are as follows:
- Hume (human)
- Elvaan (Elf)
- Tarutaru
- Galka
- Mithra
This is a hard choice, your stats in FFXI will level up based on what Job you are playing, and what race you are. Because of this some Races are better suited to certain jobs, this doesn't mean that other races can't play those other jobs, they just won't be as good at it stat wise. Also, later when we pick your nation you get a special ring to start with if your race is dominant. I will go more in depth on this under the "Nation" section. One final note about choosing a race, the Tarutaru may not be a good choice for a new player. While they are VERY good images they are very poor when it comes to Hit Points, which can really make leveling at low levels difficult. I'm not saying you shouldn't play a Tarutaru as your first character, it just may be harder for you.
.:Appearance:.
Ok, most races, except for Mithra and Galka, may choose to be either male or female. You also may choose one of 8 faces, each having one of two types, A or B. Now remember once you complete the character creation process you can't change your appearance, so be very sure you like the face you picked!
.:Name:.
Call me Ishmael... or whatever. ^_^
Like your appearance, once you pick this you can't take it back. Oh, and please don't pick something stupid like "ownzorbeeches", "superdood" or "eyezexjuup". Not only are they immature, but decent players tend to avoid grouping with people who have stupid names.
.:Class:.
This specifies what class and equipment you start off with in the game. You may pick form one of the following:
- Warrior
- Monk
- Thief
- White Mage
- Black Mage
- Red Mage
Now remember your not forced to stick with this class due to the "Job System". Once you get in the game you can switch to something else. Now for a newbie, I would suggest a nice simple warrior Job, you are less likely to get killed when soloing, and they are pretty easy to play. The main warrior classes are Warrior, Monk, Thief. A little warning about thief, while its a warrior type Job its tends to be a little weak until higher levels.
.:World:.
Ok, usually FFXI will place you on a random server, which is known as a "World". If you have a friend on a server, and they got you a "World Pass" you may type the name of their world here, and then enter the World Pass number in the "Password" area, if not... cross your fingers!
.:Nation:.
There are 3 main nations in FFXI:
- The Kingdom of Sand'Oria (Elvaan)
- The Federation of Windurst (Tarutaru and Mithra)
- The Republic of Bastok (Hume and Galka)
Your quests, missions, and leveling 1-10 depend on where you start. Also, as mentioned in the "Race" section if your race matches the dominant one of the nation, you will get a nice ring to start with.
.:[Ready to Play]:.
Because leveling 1-10 is dependant on what nation you start this guide will break off into pages dependant on your world!
I decided to start in Sand'Oria
I decided to start in Windurst
I decided to Start in Bastok
